My work is influenced by my experience in the garment industry. Working in production gave me the connection with different textures of fabric and threads, which made me understand the effort involved in the production process. I’m interested in bringing the work of those who make the clothing that we wear to light and show what is behind the creation of each product.
Drag started when I discovered an old broom at sewing contractor. That broom transmitted something special to me. Perhaps it was the twisted bristle from its overuse or the color of its dragging threads.
I was interested in recycling the materials that the operators used as well as the brooms that had traces and left-over threads and fabric from their work, assembling them in a cohesive piece to showcase the different textures and volumes.
Tar is present in all my work. It represents the contamination that the valuable and qualified workers are exposed in the industry. Many of them are cast away taking the production to other horizons. This series was possible thanks to the textile operators that saved the brooms for me and recycled materials that are part of their job and my artwork.
